July
2024
Hello –
July is such a busy month here at NMTS! It is the start of our new fiscal year and is full of lots of fun events and performances. And July is also Disability Pride Month, which honors people with disabilities, their culture, identities, and contributions to society. It began in the United States in 1990 to recognize the signing of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) into law on July 26 of that year. The overall purpose of this month is to break down and end the stigma around disability, to raise awareness of the struggles and achievements of people with disabilities, and to encourage public expressions of #disabilitypride. Here are some ways that YOU can celebrate Disability Pride Month: 1) Learn about the ADA and how it affects all of our lives, 2) Read and watch media that has been created by people with disabilities (the film Crip Camp is a great place to start), 3) Learn about disability activists past and present such as Justin Dart, Ed Roberts, Judith Heumann, and Alice Wong, and 4) Discover and support organizations such as NMTS that are advocating for disability rights in your community!

Summer Music Camp
After a two year break, we are thrilled to be back to our annual summer music camp. This year’s camp will run July 8-12, and as of this writing, there are still two spots left!
Camp is a great time for teens and adults to connect with fellow music lovers, play instruments, write songs, dance, sing and perform! During camp you will also get to explore different different types of music and instruments.
If you are interested in joining in on the fun, call the office to secure your spot: 775.324.5521. Just $200 for the entire week with scholarships available for those in need.
Born to Dance!
We are excited to host this year’s annual dance concert in our own building! Born to Dance will take place on Friday, July 26 from 5:30-7:00pm in the Jerry Smith Auditorium here at NMTS. It will serve both as July’s Fun Friday Night AND our Artown community event for 2024.
We hope you will come out and support the NMTS dancers! This year will include performances from Dance Classes I and II, as well as our newest Exploring Movement class. And we have a guest performance this year from Wendy’s Dance Like No One is Watching group.
NMTS is committed to ensuring that people have the opportunity to perform. For our class participants, performances are always optional. While a few people prefer to skip performance days, most people love the chance to show their friends, family and community what they have been learning in their classes.
This event is free with a suggested $5 donation.
